Who We Are

Hampton Virginia Military Veteran Movers is a veteran-owned and operated moving company serving Hampton, Newport News, Yorktown, Williamsburg, Poquoson, and the greater Peninsula. Our crews are veterans from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. We are a paid vendor for the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, and our work has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Lakes at Town Center is one of the properties we work most often in Hampton. Every month we move families in and out of this gated community — Langley Air Force Base officers and airmen choosing the 2 and 3-bedroom layouts for growing families, Sentara Careplex nurses and medical staff wanting a quieter community than the Peninsula Town Center mid-rises, Newport News Shipyard professionals, NASA Langley researchers, and long-term residents who value the two-lake setting. We know this property.

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════

Before You Hire Any Mover for The Lakes at Town Center, Read This

The Lakes at Town Center is a gated community — not every Coliseum Central apartment property requires access coordination with security, but this one does. That single detail changes the entire move-day logistics from the moment we arrive at the entrance.

Most moving companies that have never worked The Lakes treat it like a standard garden-style property. They pull up to the gate without pre-coordination. They sit at the entrance while the leasing office confirms access. They lose 30 to 60 minutes before a single box gets loaded. They find out during the move, and you pay for the learning curve.

We don't. We run this community. We pre-coordinate the gate access with the Chandler Management leasing office. We know the difference between the resident entrance and the visitor entrance. We know which of the two lakes sits closest to which building clusters. We know the nature trail paths that cut through the community — because residents walk them on move day, and we route around them.

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════

Moving Into The Lakes at Town Center

The Lakes at Town Center opened in 2005 and has been extensively renovated. 283 units across 3-story garden-style buildings arranged around two natural lakes on the property. The community offers 2 and 3-bedroom floor plans ranging from 1,000 to 1,230 square feet — these are larger units than most Peninsula Town Center apartments, which changes move day calculations.

The "two lakes" feature isn't marketing. The property is genuinely built around lake geography, with lakefront units carrying a premium and nature trail paths that follow the waterline.

Renovated unit finishes: Wood-style flooring throughout. ENERGY STAR stainless appliances. Custom cabinets and countertops. Stylish light fixtures. Two-toned paint schemes. Digital thermostats. Smoke-free living. The renovation is documented in published reviews — residents confirm the updated finishes.

Green-initiative utility savings: Property marketing claims residents save $300-$500 per year in utility costs thanks to green initiatives. Whether you hit that exact number depends on unit and season, but the energy-efficient infrastructure is real.

Community amenities: Two lakes. Two resort-style pools. Fitness center. Sauna. Nature trail. Multiple dog parks. WiFi cafe. Gated entrance with security infrastructure. Balcony or patio on every unit, with city-light views from select units.

Furnished living option: The Lakes partners with CORT Furniture for residents who want move-in-ready apartments in 48 hours. This is a genuine amenity — particularly valuable for corporate relocations, traveling medical professionals, and military members on short assignments.

Moving Out of The Lakes at Town Center

Move-out day at The Lakes lives and dies by gate coordination and building identification.

Gate coordination comes first. The Lakes at Town Center is gated. Our truck cannot enter without pre-coordination. We email or call the Chandler Management leasing office 24 to 48 hours before move day to confirm gate access, loading zone position, and any contractor check-in requirements. If you book with us, we handle this coordination — you don't need to.

Building identification. 283 units spread across a multi-building campus means your specific building's location matters. Lakefront units have different truck-path realities than inner-courtyard units. Units near the nature trail have different logistics than units near the main entrance. When you book with us, give us your building identifier and unit number so we map the truck route in advance.

Leasing office hours. Chandler Management Corporation runs the Lakes leasing office Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed Sunday. Note that Monday-Friday opens at 8 AM — earlier than most Hampton apartment properties — which actually helps with early morning moves.

Confirm everything in writing. Email the Chandler Management leasing office 48 hours before move day to confirm gate access, loading zone, walkthrough time, and key return deadline. Get each answer in writing. Responsive management is the Lakes' strength — published reviews consistently name specific staff members positively, and you can expect clear communication when you ask clearly.

Security deposit protection. Lakes units have renovated wood-style flooring that scratches under dragged furniture, ENERGY STAR appliances with visible surfaces that dent, and newer paint schemes that scuff easily. We bring floor runners, corner guards, doorframe padding, and stair protection on every Lakes move. Pre-move condition photos and post-move condition photos. No extra charge.

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════

The Lakes at Town Center Building Layout — What Movers Need to Know

283 units across multiple 3-story garden-style buildings. The buildings are arranged around two natural lakes on the property. Ground-floor units often have patio access; upper units have balcony access. Some units specifically feature city-light views.

No elevator in most buildings. The Lakes is garden-style with interior stairwell access to upper floors. A 3rd-floor 3-bedroom move is materially different from a ground-floor 2-bedroom move. Tell us your unit's floor at booking so we size the crew correctly.

Gated entrance access. Single entry point through a secured gate. Loading zone positions must be coordinated with the leasing office. We pre-arrange all access before move day.

Two-lake geography. The two lakes aren't just ornamental — they shape the internal road layout. Some buildings sit on lakefront positions with limited truck access. Other buildings sit inland with more straightforward truck paths. Building-specific planning matters.

Nature trail across the property. Residents walk this trail with dogs, children, and family members throughout the day. On move day we watch for foot traffic across our loading corridors.

Parking — real constraints confirmed by multiple reviewers. The Lakes offers street parking, detached garages, and assigned parking at $0 to $125 per month. Published reviews consistently flag parking availability as a genuine friction point — one reviewer describes needing to "WWE your neighbor for a parking spot." We stage our truck in the leasing office-coordinated position rather than general resident parking.

Larger units mean longer moves. The 1,000 to 1,230 square foot floor plans at The Lakes run larger than most Peninsula Town Center apartment communities. Expect moves to run longer than equivalent-bedroom-count moves at Axis, Chapman, or Signature Place.

Pet policy. Two pets per apartment, $300 non-refundable fee per pet, $30 monthly pet rent per pet, breed restrictions apply. Multiple dog parks on the property mean active pet traffic on move days.

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════

Three Things Every Lakes at Town Center Mover Must Know

1. This is a gated community — coordinate in advance. Unlike most Hampton apartment properties, The Lakes requires gate access coordination before the truck arrives. We handle this when you book with us. Movers who don't coordinate in advance lose 30 to 60 minutes at the gate.

2. The leasing office opens at 8 AM — earlier than most Hampton properties. If you need same-day coordination during business hours, The Lakes' 8 AM opening is a genuine advantage. Morning moves starting at 7:30 AM can have the leasing office available by the second hour of the move for any coordination.

3. Parking fills early — plan accordingly. The Lakes' parking constraints are documented across multiple reviews. Morning moves (7:30-9:00 AM starts) have the best truck staging options. Afternoon moves can require longer walks from truck to unit.

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════

Why Hampton Virginia Military Veteran Movers Runs The Lakes at Town Center Better

National chains send a crew that's never been to The Lakes. They pull up to the gate without pre-coordination. They're stopped at the entrance. They call the leasing office from the truck. They wait. They lose an hour before they even start.

Our crews move The Lakes regularly. We pre-coordinate gate access the day before. We arrive with the leasing office expecting us. We know the Chandler Management Corporation rhythm. We know which loading zones serve which building clusters. We know the nature trail paths residents walk in the morning. We route around them. We know the parking constraints and stage the truck where we know it won't block residents.

This is operational authority you cannot fake. The national chains learn it by losing your money. We learned it before the truck rolled.

Who Lives at The Lakes at Town Center

The Lakes' gated community, 2 and 3-bedroom floor plans, and lake setting attract a specific Peninsula demographic.

Langley Air Force Base officers and families. 5.5 miles to the base, 13-minute drive. The Lakes' larger 2-3BR layouts specifically appeal to officer families with children who need more than the 1BR mid-rise options at Peninsula Town Center. PCS season (May through August) drives measurable move volume.

NASA Langley Research Center engineers and scientists. 5.8 miles away. The Lakes' family-oriented layout and gated-community security profile appeal to researchers on multi-year assignments who bring families.

Sentara Careplex medical staff. 1.3 miles to the hospital. Medical professionals who want a quieter community than the Peninsula Town Center mid-rises choose The Lakes.

Newport News Shipyard professionals. 7.5 miles via I-64. Shipyard engineers and managers value the family-friendly environment and Peninsula Town Center proximity.

Military families in general. Published reviews specifically identify The Lakes as "military friendly." The larger floor plans and gated community appeal broadly across military branches.

Growing families with children and pets. The 2-3BR focus (no 1BR option) means The Lakes is built for families, not singles. Multiple dog parks and nature trails reinforce the family-pet culture.

Corporate housing residents. The Lakes' partnership with CORT Furniture makes it a landing spot for corporate relocations, traveling medical personnel, and defense contractors on short assignments.

What The Lakes at Town Center Marketing Says vs. What Residents Actually Say

The information below is drawn from publicly posted resident reviews on major apartment review platforms including Apartments.com, ApartmentFinder, ApartmentHomeLiving, ForRent, CorporateHousing, and the property's own published testimonials, and from our own operational experience moving residents in and out of this community.

The Lakes at Town Center's marketing centers on newly renovated units, gated community security, two lakes and resort-style amenities, and military-friendly positioning. Most of the marketing is accurate — but The Lakes has a genuinely varied review profile with real operational friction worth knowing about. Here is the honest picture.

Staff and management — consistent named-staff praise

The marketing says: Responsive management, helpful staff.

The resident reality: Published reviews across multiple platforms name specific staff members positively. Leasing office team members Myeshia, Mallory, Ynez, Nikki Witts, and Britney are repeatedly credited in independent reviews. Maintenance technicians Tony, Will, and Mr. James are specifically named for quick response times — one review credits Will for same-day fixing both an AC issue and a washing machine problem. Another review credits Tony for "after hours emergent maintenance" response. This kind of named-staff praise across multiple reviewers is a real operational culture signal.

What that means for your move: Leverage the staff. Email the leasing office early, email clearly, and expect cooperation. The Lakes' management culture actively supports residents — which extends to move-day coordination when you ask clearly.

Parking — consistent and significant complaint

The marketing says: Parking available; detached garages available.

The resident reality: This is the single most consistent negative theme in Lakes reviews. One published review specifically says residents have to "WWE your neighbor for a parking spot." Another describes parking scarcity as a serious daily friction. Assigned parking ($0-$125/month) and detached garages are real options, but the free resident parking is genuinely constrained. Multiple reviewers flag this issue independently.

What that means for your move: We stage our truck in the leasing office-coordinated position, not general resident parking. If friends or family are helping on move day, warn them parking will be tight — especially during evening hours when residents return from work.

Price-to-value — mixed reviewer perception

The marketing says: Luxury gated community with resort-style amenities.

The resident reality: Pricing data confirms The Lakes is priced at or slightly above comparable Coliseum Central properties. One reviewer specifically says "the amount you have to pay to breathe in these apartments is crazy" and describes feeling the price was not justified by the unit condition delivered. Other reviewers describe The Lakes as "great price compared to others" and note it's "military friendly" on value. The price perception genuinely splits by reviewer — which usually indicates unit-to-unit variability in what tenants receive.

What that means for your move: Tour your specific unit, not a model unit, before signing. Test every outlet. Test every appliance. Check every fixture. Document any issues in writing within 48 hours of move-in. We can flag obvious issues during the move for your inspection report.

Move-in unit condition — some reported issues with appliance and finish quality

The marketing says: Newly renovated with modern finishes.

The resident reality: The renovation is real — the wood-style flooring, stainless appliances, and updated finishes are confirmed across positive reviews. However, one published review specifically describes a move-in experience where "half of everything is broke and not in good condition" with mentions of non-working outlets and dented refrigerator surfaces. This appears to be unit-specific rather than property-wide.

What that means for your move: Walk through your unit with a detailed checklist before we place any furniture. Photograph every pre-existing issue. Submit the move-in inspection report to the leasing office the same day. This protects your security deposit when you eventually move out.

Community culture — pet waste and trash compliance noted

The marketing says: Pet-friendly community, multiple dog parks.

The resident reality: Multiple reviews confirm The Lakes is genuinely pet-friendly with active dog parks. However, some reviewers specifically note dog waste accumulation across common areas and trash rule violations by some residents. One reviewer specifically describes trash lingering "by the door for days" and resident behavior not meeting posted trash rules. Like most large gated communities, The Lakes has residents across a wide range of household behaviors.

What that means for your move: Don't leave boxes, trash, or move-day debris outside your unit overnight. Bag and dispose of trash during the move. The community has documented friction around resident-generated waste — we keep our move-day footprint clean.

AC reliability — some reports of summer issues

The marketing says: Updated climate control systems.

The resident reality: Most published reviews don't mention AC issues, but a subset specifically report AC leaks requiring buckets to catch water. One review credits maintenance technician Will for fast AC fixes — suggesting the issue is recognized and addressable, but also recurring. Like most 2005-construction apartment buildings, AC performance varies by unit and by recency of service.

What that means for your move: If you're moving in during Hampton summer, confirm your unit's AC is operational and recently serviced before signing. Test it during the walkthrough. AC failure on move-in day in a Hampton July is genuine misery.

Amenities — lakes, pools, and nature trail deliver as promised

The marketing says: Two lakes, two resort-style pools, fitness center, sauna, nature trail.

The resident reality: Positive reviews consistently confirm the amenities are real and maintained. The two-lake geography isn't a marketing flourish — residents describe the water views, the nature trail experience, and the resort-style pool use as genuine community benefits. The sauna and fitness center receive positive mentions. Multiple residents specifically mention community events including Memorial Day cookouts as positive culture signals.

What that means for your move: If you're moving in as a family, these amenities are real and will be used. If you're moving with kids, the nature trail and pools are genuine quality-of-life benefits worth the gated-community commitment.

The mover's bottom line on The Lakes at Town Center

The Lakes at Town Center is a genuine gated community with real lake geography, real renovated interiors, strong named-staff management culture, and real operational friction around parking and some unit-to-unit quality variability. The positives are genuine — larger 2-3BR layouts for families, military-friendly positioning, responsive named staff, two lakes and resort pools. The frictions are real too — parking scarcity, price perception variability, AC issues in some units.

When you hire us for a Lakes at Town Center move, you get a crew that has run this gated community repeatedly, knows the Chandler Management leasing office rhythm, pre-coordinates gate access before move day, and has the operational knowledge to separate a clean 5-hour move from an 8-hour struggle.

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════

Pricing Framework

Our Lakes at Town Center moving rates are transparent. No hidden fees. No bait-and-switch.

Moves with truck (we supply the 26-foot truck, blankets, dollies, and tools):

  • 2-mover crew: $200 per hour
  • 3-mover crew: $250 per hour
  • 4-mover crew: $300 per hour

Labor only (your truck, your PODS, your U-Haul, your Penske, your Budget rental):

  • $75 per mover, per hour, 2-mover minimum

Typical billing structure:

  • 2-hour minimum on all Lakes at Town Center moves
  • Billed in 30-minute increments after the minimum
  • No additional fee for stairs within the same building
  • No additional fee for standard residential items (sofas, mattresses, dressers, refrigerators)
  • Specialty items (piano, gun safe, pool table, oversized artwork) quoted separately before the job

What each crew size handles best at The Lakes at Town Center:

  • 2 movers — smaller 2-bedroom ground-floor units, labor-only help, CORT furnished unit moves
  • 3 movers — larger 2-bedroom units, most typical Lakes moves, upper-floor moves with moderate loads
  • 4 movers — 3-bedroom units, upper-floor 3BR moves with heavy furniture, same-day move-out-and-move-in jobs

The Lakes' larger unit footprint (1,000-1,230 sq ft) and gated community logistics mean moves typically run longer than equivalent-bedroom moves at properties like Signature Place or smaller Axis at PTC 1-bedroom units. We factor that into crew sizing at booking.

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════

When Something Goes Wrong — The Lakes at Town Center Contingencies

Moves do not always go as planned. Here is how we handle the common Lakes contingencies.

Gate access not pre-coordinated. If for any reason gate access wasn't confirmed in advance, we work with the leasing office or security to establish access on-site. Takes 15-45 minutes in worst case. We avoid this through the standard pre-coordination process — but when it happens, we handle it.

Parking conflict. With documented parking constraints, conflicts happen. We coordinate with the leasing office for an alternate staging position. If necessary we adjust start time to avoid peak resident return windows.

Leasing office closed when we need to coordinate. Chandler Management runs the office Mon-Fri 8-6, Sat 10-5, closed Sunday. If a coordination issue arises after hours, we work around the issue and reconnect with the office the next business day.

Nature trail foot traffic blocking loading path. We pause, let residents and pets pass, then resume. We never rush residents walking the trail — it's part of why they live here.

Upper-floor stairwell carry challenges. Oversized items occasionally won't clear stairwells. We assess on-site. Some items can be disassembled. For large sectionals and king mattresses we sometimes route through alternate paths. If an item genuinely won't clear, we document it and advise on sale, donation, or storage.

Pet encounter during move. The Lakes has active pet population with multiple dog parks. We pause for residents walking pets across our loading paths, never rush encounters, and continue when the path clears.

Weather problem on move day. Garden-style layout with outdoor carry paths means weather matters more here than at mid-rise properties with covered entries. We proceed through light rain with tarps and runners. Severe weather — lightning, heavy snow, ice — triggers a reschedule call.

Active-duty military, retired military, veterans, and military families qualify. The Lakes also markets itself as military-friendly, which aligns well with our operational focus.

For Lakes at Town Center move-outs we send a 3 or 4-mover crew to start at 7:30 AM, completing the Lakes side by midday or early afternoon, then shuttling to the new address for afternoon placement.

Neighborhoods and Properties Near The Lakes at Town Center

Hampton Virginia Military Veteran Movers serves every neighborhood on the Peninsula. The Lakes at Town Center sits in the middle of our most active Coliseum Central property grid — we run weekly moves across multiple nearby apartment communities, which means we understand how residents relocate between them.

Apartment communities we actively work near The Lakes at Town Center:

We run weekly moves at Hampton Center Apartments at 6001 Terrell Lane — the 418-unit Drucker & Falk community less than a mile from The Lakes. Residents moving from The Lakes to Hampton Center often want a larger community with lower price point; residents moving the other direction often want the gated security and lake setting of The Lakes.

We work Monticello at Town Center at 100 Monticello Mews regularly — the 325-unit Signature Management Corp community nearby. Hampton Center and The Lakes both compete with Monticello for family-focused residents; we know all three leasing offices.

We work Signature Place at 101 Signature Way — also Signature Management Corp, smaller-community feel, recently renovated. Some Lakes residents move to Signature Place when they want a tighter community without the gated-campus scale.

We run regular moves at The Chapman at 670 Downey Green Drive — Peninsula Town Center mid-rise managed by Drucker & Falk. Residents upgrading from The Lakes to a luxury mid-rise with 24-hour security often choose Chapman.

We work Axis at PTC at 1850 Merchant Lane — Peninsula Town Center's newest urban mid-rise. Younger Lakes residents sometimes move to Axis when they want the Peninsula Town Center walkability without the gated-community commitment.

Other Peninsula Town Center apartment corridors we run regularly: Axis Lofts at 2581 McMenamin Street and Marcella at Town Center at 101 Benevita Place.

Life at The Lakes at Town Center — Why People Move Here

The Lakes' draw is the combination of gated-community security, two-lake setting, larger family-focused 2-3BR layouts, and Coliseum Central convenience.

Gated community security. Unlike most Peninsula Town Center apartment properties, The Lakes has a single gated entry point. Residents trade the walkability of open-campus properties for the security of a controlled-access community. For families with children, this is a genuine benefit.

Two natural lakes and nature trail. The property name isn't marketing. The two lakes are real geographic features that define the internal layout, provide water views from select units, and anchor the nature trail that residents use daily.

Larger floor plans for families. The Lakes offers only 2 and 3-bedroom units — no 1-bedroom or studio options. This is a family-focused community by design. Units run 1,000 to 1,230 square feet, larger than most Peninsula Town Center apartment averages.

Military-friendly positioning. Multiple reviews and the property's own marketing specifically identify The Lakes as military-friendly. With Langley AFB, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, and NASA Langley all within 6 miles, the community attracts a significant military and aerospace professional resident base.

Medical access. Sentara Careplex Hospital 1.3 miles. Hampton VA Medical Center 5.5 miles. Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital within easy drive.

Renovated interiors and energy efficiency. Wood-style flooring, ENERGY STAR appliances, custom cabinets, digital thermostats. Property marketing claims $300-$500 per year in resident utility savings.

Resort-style amenities. Two swimming pools. Fitness center. Sauna. Nature trail. Multiple dog parks. WiFi cafe. Furnished unit option through CORT Furniture partnership.

Peninsula Town Center proximity. 0.5 miles — a 12-minute walk — to Peninsula Town Center retail, restaurants, and entertainment.

Highway access. I-64 on-ramp 1.2 miles. Direct access to Newport News, Williamsburg, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach.

The Lakes at Town Center is built for families who want gated-community security, larger apartment living, and Coliseum Central convenience without the mid-rise density of Peninsula Town Center's newer properties.
