• Kennedy Hall — built in 1918 by students, 4 floors, no elevator, 50-resident capacity, freshman scholars. Historic building requiring careful handling of narrow doorways and stairwells.

Mid-rise and newer halls:

• Wilder Hall — named for L. Douglas Wilder (first elected Black governor in U.S. history), opened 1990, 5 floors, upper-class male housing, 191 capacity, many rooms with Hampton River and Chesapeake Bay views.
• Holmes Hall — opened 2002, 3 floors, upper-class male honors housing, 105 capacity, modern amenities.
• Orchard Road Residence Hall — 717 Orchard Road, opened 2018, 2-story, 56-bed men's honors freshman dorm with private bathrooms. Quad layout with James Hall Suites, Harkness Hall, and Bemis Laboratories.

Cleveland or Kennedy Hall stair carry. Historic halls, no elevators, 4-floor walk-ups. We pace the crew, schedule breaks, and carry strategically. Budget extra time.

Parent rental truck arrives late. Happens during rush week. We bill from our arrival time. We'll help coordinate with the rental company.

Student hasn't finished packing. Common. We can help with final packing for additional time, or prioritize what IS packed.

Thunderstorm rolls in. We proceed through light rain with tarps. Lightning triggers a 30 to 60 minute pause for safety.

Traffic gridlock on Mercury Boulevard or I-64. We factor this into every HU move. Morning starts beat the worst of it. If delayed, we communicate ETA updates every 30 minutes.

Too much stuff for the truck. Second trip if time allows, storage for overflow, or donation for items that don't need to go home.
